Welcome to The Jersey Sub-Aqua Club (JSAC)
Whether you are already an experienced scuba diver, or would like to experience this great sport for the first time, come along and talk to us. We have very experienced instructors, with a large diverse range of courses, to improve your scuba skills and knowledge, and associated topics.
The History of Jersey Sub Aqua Club
The Jersey Sub Aqua Club was formed in June 1953 by a group of enthusiastic people who had been fired with the desire to explore the underwater world as a result of pioneers like Jaques Cousteau and Hans and Lotti Hass who had been instrumental in bringing underwater scenes to the television and the introduction of viable scuba equipment that could be purchased readily by anyone wishing to dive.
Our Club House
We have a great clubhouse, situated next to the old La Follie Inn, Commercial Buildings, St. Helier Harbour, St. Helier.
On the lower floor is our tank room, with two air compressors for filling our own scuba tanks, and eight lockers, which are available for hire to members on a yearly basis. On the second floor is our club house function room, where we hold meetings, lectures and social events.
The Club Boat
The club owns a 6 metre Humber RIB (ridged inflatable boat) with two 50 hp engines. It is the responsibility of the Boat Officer to keep the boat in top sea-worthy condition. The Dive Marshall is responsible for re-fuelling, the wash down and general putting away of the boat after each use. The maximum number of divers allowed on the boat for a dive is 6 with one non-diving boat handler. The boat can only be used with the permission of the Diving Officer, even for non-diving events such as general boating etc.
To use the club boat you must satisfy the Diving Officers requirements of being a proficient boat handler, oxygen administrator, first aider and a VHF operator, along with a safe diving plan with divers who are comfortable to do the dive. For a boat dive to be sanctioned by the Diving Officer please email jsac1@jerseymail.co.uk
The boat is kept in the harbour property adjacent to the clubhouse and will need a suitable towing vehicle to launch and recover the boat.
